Inspiration Revealed - Buttons

Inspiration revealed

A little necklace celebrating the button. I've been asked many times to make buttons, but the paint and the finish I use would be damaged in washing, so I did the next best thing and created a button necklace.

**Special thanks to Kyle for letting me borrow his button collection!

Inspiration Revealed - Strawberries

2010-04-151

Take an everyday object like a strawberry and interpret it into something uniquely you. First I created the drawing which led to the pendant. And while trying to decide on a name for this pendant, I got a whole new idea. I'll post once I get it completed!

This posting has also inspired me to create a new Flickr group where everyone can reveal their own inspiration with the final art piece. Come join!

Art Inspiration Revealed

This group is for sharing what inspired one of your art creations. Please include either 2 pictures showing the inspiration and the final art piece, or a collage showing both your inspiration and your finished piece. Finished pieces or inspirations alone will be removed. Please title your pictures "Inspiration" and "revealed" or "inspiration revealed". You can easily make a collage/mosaic from your Flickr photos with bighugelabs.com/mosaic.php.

Inspiration Revealed

I found this little field of daisy-like flowers (weeds) at the basketball court when I took the boys to practice. I immediately went home and recreated them. I really loved the way they were bunched together, so I wanted to convey that in the necklace. There may be some more pieces coming soon as I'm getting more ideas as I post these photos. The earrings and the necklace are now available in my shop.

Inspiration Revealed - Sometimes I Inspire Myself!

In a previous post, I illustrated how some of my pendants inspired one of my new prints. Here are a couple more examples of how my jewelry has inspired my art and my art has inspired my jewelry:

I'm sure the back and forth will continue. All the items above are available in my jewelry and print shops.

Inspiration Revealed - Fall Leaf

Thought I'd share a leaf that inspired me this morning. I found it on my front step. It must have been stepped on several times. Makes me want to scatter a few more out there and see what patterns turn up.

Since it was too early for creating (at least for me), I used the inspiration to make a treasury list. I can imagine that any of these items could have been inspired by this gorgeous Fall leaf. I hope it offers you a little inspiration today wherever you are in the world!

Inspiration Revealed - Art Imitating Life Imitating Art

Just a quick post today. I wanted to post yesterday, but I was having trouble accessing blogger. Last week I competed a pen & ink drawing (which I then digitally colored) of a rock tower. It was actually inspired by this photo I found in my contacts on Flickr by graphixoutpost

Here is the drawing inspired by the photo:

Here is the rock tower my son made yesterday inspired by my drawing:

Maybe it will inspire one of you to create something too! Have a great weekend!

Inspiration Revealed - Going Backwards or forwards?

Guess who's back? Yes me from another one of my hiatuses. Artscape and kids kept me busy for a few weeks. Posting will continue to be sporadic until September when I get 7 hours of my day back after the boys go back to school. I have been working on some stuff though so I thought I would do a quick post to share. I'm still opening a 2nd shop (hope to have it all done by Sept. 1) for prints of collages, photography, and other artwork so I have been working on my stock for that shop. I also broke my camera, so I haven't been able to take any good product shots with the cheap pawn shop one I bought as an interim replacement. So unfortunately I have some new jewelry stuff to post, but I just can't get a shot that I feel is up to standard.

To ease my camera frustration, I have been using my pendants and jewelry as inspiration for some new pen and ink drawings. I figure I already have a ton of designs done, so why reinvent the wheel. I'm trying to combine ideas and grow them even more. It's been fun to merge the old with the new. Here's a little collage of my latest drawing that was inspired by a couple pendants and an ACEO:

Inspiration Revealed - Going backwards or forwards?

So take a little time to look back on some older designs and then move forward by creating them in a different medium, combining them into one piece or expanding on them in some way.

Inspiration Revealed - Ginkgo Leaves

So, I didn't really need pictures to inspire me to create ginkgo leaves as I have quite a few in my shop already, but when I was walking into the mall a couple weeks ago I noticed the leaves were coming in and I couldn't resist taking a few quick shots. I did get a few strange looks, but who cares, it's all in the name of art. I posted the photos to Flickr and didn't plan to do anything with them, but my Flickr, Etsy, Twitter buddy, Sandfibers, told me I should add a ginkgo leaf to my "Out on a Limb" series. Duh, why didn't I think of that? So, I took her advice and here it is:

Thanks Sandfibers!! If I had a picture of you, I would have added it to the picture mosaic since you were very integral part of the inspiration for this piece!

I added the extra leaves since the pictures showed the trees so lush with leaves. It didn't feel right to just have a lone dangling leaf.

So listen to your friends and don't be afraid to take that picture no matter where you are. I may have looked like a crazy lady taking pictures in the mall parking lot, but I definitely think it was worth it in the end!

Inspiration Revealed - Cherry Blossoms

"Inspiration revealed" is a new feature on the blog. I will utilize a collage and/or photos to show the inspiration and the end product. If you have a photo of something that inspired you and the piece of art you created from that inspiration, please send me some photos and I will post them in this feature. It's great way to share and get some free promo as well. If you have an online store, I will be happy to link to it!

Here's my first Inspiration revealed:

All those cherry blossom pictures I took this Spring were not for nothing. Their inspiration led to this lovely little addition to my "Out on a Limb" Series . The necklace and the inspiration below!
